Plans are in the works for a Form of 1981 gathering in the summer of 2021, perhaps in conjunction with Anniversary Weekend or soon thereafter.
Sam Reid is still hard at work at the Wood Island Life Saving Station Association, and visited the Whaleback Lighthouse in Kittery, Maine, with Brooke Southall this summer.
Sono Aibe had a mini-reunion with Jutta von Falkenhausen in Berlin, where Jutta lives. Sono was visiting to give a talk on women’s reproductive health and rights at the One Planet, One Health, One Future conference organized by the German Foreign Ministry and the Wildlife Conservation Society last October.
Adam Young writes that it is a bittersweet time as his son, Charlie ’20, is in the homestretch of his SPS career. With no other known offspring (these are his words verbatim, by the way), he struggles with the reality that this is the end of yet another chapter. Of particular note, he attended the thrilling SPS football championship game held at Gillette stadium. A terrific group of young men and some very fine coaching resulted in a second consecutive undefeated season, culminating in a second consecutive championship.

Derek Saleeby shares: “I made it back to Liberia for business in November and managed to reconnect with home base, quite a rewarding experience in so many ways. Although I spend considerable time in Africa for business, I had not been back to Liberia since the coup of April 1980. Indeed, I was in my first year at SPS when we had the coup and remember with gratefulness Preston Hannibal (who ultimately was the minister at our wedding) coming to my room in Ford to take me to their house so that I could speak with my father.”
From Victoria Labalme: “All well here.Living in N.Y.C.; got married in 2011; have built a creative business around helping entrepreneurs, executives, individuals, and organizations ‘RISK FORWARD’ to bring out the best in themselves and in others. First book is coming out March, 2021 – terrifying and exciting. Aiming to break the book mold. Would love to connect with any Paulies who have interest/experience in business, personal development, and/or book launches www.VictoriaLabalme.com.”

Sarah O’Herron Casey writes: “My husband, three daughters, and I spent five days on safari in Botswana and then headed to Cape Town, South Africa, and the vineyards of Franschhoek. Highlights included seeing a lioness nursing her cubs, watching a herd of elephants walk by our camp when we were eating lunch, as well as an incredible hike up Table Mountain. It was truly magical!”

My family and I had the privilege of hosting Emily Hartshorne, her husband, Dobbs, and their brilliant son, Scotty, for Thanksgiving. I’ve even got the photo of Emily juggling tennis balls in the kitchen to prove it.
Kim Brown writes: “My husband, our three big dogs, and I moved from a smaller island (Pender) to a larger one (Vancouver) this summer and are now living in Sooke, B.C., on the wild west coast. It brings us closer to two of our six grandkids (and two of our granddogs as well). Still telecommuting to work at the University of Montana, teaching at the University of Victoria, and providing some private counseling services. I won’t be able to make it to the 35th but look forward to seeing the pictures and hearing the tall tales.”
Nick Hutchinson continues to write about music for the Westword in Denver, with an emphasis on the genres of Americana, jam rock, and bluegrass. He is currently working on a book about Jerry Garcia’s musical legacy. The book, Channeling Jerry, will be released in 2020. He regularly sees Chris Wirth ’86, John Greene, and other local Paulies.
Sarah Neroni writes: “I am looking forward to reconnecting with my formmates at our 35th reunion!”
Jonathan Young has turned the corner: “Transformed the back pain I was whining about into major weight loss and life trans- formation. Greater things ahead in 2020. Please let me know if you’d like to know more.”
Donald Sung writes that “The Honorable Jim Frates recently visited San Francisco and we had a great time catching up over dinner, speaking mostly about getting old and things we want to do when we grow up. Afterwards, Jim took me to some fancy party at a secret location with an indoor pool and a mariachi band playing in the middle of the pool on some type of floating device.”

Tom Swan shares this happy news: “On December 20, 2019, I married the love of my life, Joe Townley, at the Chelsea Registrar in London. Joe is a graduate of Ampleforth College (1996), Oxford (2000), and Sandhurst. In attendance were our four-year-old twins, Sam and Rose, our two-year-old twins, Hope and Grace, and family and close friends, including Cliff Yonce and Natalie Edmonds ’82. It was an amazing wedding and reception. We will live in Los Angeles, Cape Cod, and St. Moritz.”

In a reunion of North Upper 1987-88, 31 years later, Blair Pillsbury Enders, Alexandra Bailliere, Whitney Wood Bylin, and Wilkie McCoy Cook gathered at the Bailliere family home on Nantucket, Mass., over a perfect- weather weekend at the end of September.
Andrew Carter writes: “After a much- needed break earlier in the year, I’m settled in nicely at my new gig as director of music business affairs and legal counsel at The Walt Disney Company. I’ll be working on feature films produced under the Fox Film/20th Century Studios brands. For the time being I’m based in Century City, but will eventually end up in Burbank. To say that I’m excited to work for the studios that collectively put out all the Star Wars films is an under- statement, and the second-grade version of me would have been totally blown away if he’d known this would happen. In other news, I’m regularly writing about music for LiveForLiveMusic.com, including a lengthy Grateful Dead retrospective written in a one- day, 16-hour binge at Hunter S. Thompson’s writing cabin in Colorado, and my ice hockey team is now sponsored by L.A.’s own Three Weavers Brewing Company – we totally have the coolest jerseys in the league. It’s not even close!”

Kathy Ewald shares this update: “Catching waves in Costa Rica for the holidays and then back north.”
From Gracyn Robinson: “In September, I switched firms and joined Facility360, a facilities management/project admin/ interiors company based just outside Baltimore, Md., serving as director of design and strategic partnerships. I’m currently working remotely from Lexington, Mass., while my daughters are growing quickly: Lila is in 11th grade, Dylan is in ninth, and Elsie is in seventh. I was also admitted into Brown University’s Executive Master in Healthcare Leadership Program. Really looking forward to starting the program this fall.”
